CCB CONVENTION NOTICE FALL, 1998 COME! Join old and new friends! Our 1998 fall convention will take place the weekend of October 30-November 1, 1998 at the Howard Johnson's Hotel on Whitney Avenue in Hamden. The Convention Committee has been hard at work planning a full weekend lineup which will kick off Friday night at about 6:00 with game night, featuring Bingo, Scrabble, or any other board or card games you wish to bring. Saturday will be a full day, beginning in the morning at 8:30 with a continental breakfast of bagels, muffins, assorted pastries and beverages. Registration will follow at 9:00. The business meeting will begin at 9:30 with a full agenda. Most importantly, we will be electing new CCB officers who will serve for the next two years. The day will end on Saturday night with a banquet. Sunday morning will begin with continental breakfast, followed by an uplifting speaker. The Convention will end at about 12:00 noon. We will hear from severaL interesting and informative speakers as part of our programming throughout the weekend. Saturday morning, a representative from Clever Devices, a New York based company, will explain and demonstrate new satellite technology designed to accurately announce bus stops. In the afternoon, we will share Guide Dog Users of CT's featured speaker, Susan Sullivan, who raises and trains German Shepherd dogs for sheep herding. For our after-dinner speaker on Saturday evening, we hope to have Barbara Kennelly, who is running for Governor, or her choice for Lieutenant Governor, Joseph Courtney. On Sunday morning, Rodney Thompson will speak on nutrition and good health. Everyone is on their own for lunch on Saturday; you may wish to eat at the Townhouse Restaurant across the parking lot from the hotel, or there are some places nearby from which you may order food to be delivered. registration fees are as follows: $35.00 for two (2) days; $30.00 for one (1) day. This covers the cost of continental breakfast and the Saturday night banquet. Checks should be made payable to the Connecticut Council of the Blind, and sent to Roland Soucy, Treasurer, CCB, 15 Shawnee Road, East Hartford, CT 06118 by October 15, 1998. If you are planning to stay at the hotel for one or both nights, you need to make your room reservation by September 30 in order to take advantage of the Convention rate of $69.00 per night. Call (203) 288-3831. The banquet menu is as follows: sliced roast beef, chicken, shells marinara, garden green salad, vegetables and dessert. Food will be served buffet style, but don't worry! The Convention Committee has made sure that there will be plenty of help available, so everyone will be served comfortably. Later that night you may wish to join us for a descriptive video, or spend the evening as you wish. CIB/Oak Hill is providing transportation to the Convention from the Hartford area on Friday night, beginning at about 6:00 P.M., and Saturday morning at approximately 8:30 A.M. Return trips will be on Saturday night at about 8:00 P.M., and Sunday morning at 11:30. The cost will be $3.00 round trip per person.
